What is Hours & holidays?

Hours & holidays is the JEDWare page for the days your company is closed. Some people call it the holiday manager. It shows every holiday your 3CX knows, for every department, on one page. It adds next year’s public holidays in a minute, removes the old ones, shows whether each department is open right now, and lets you close a department immediately when the shop floods or the whole team is at a funeral.

You find it under Tools › Hours & holidays in the left menu.

It does not edit weekly office hours (Monday to Friday, 8 to 16) or break times. Those stay in the 3CX Admin Console under each department.

Why it exists

3CX handles holidays well once they are in the system. Getting them in is the problem:

  • Every department has its own holiday list. Adding Christmas Eve to one list does nothing for the others.
  • Public holidays move. Easter, Ascension and Whit Monday need new dates every year, typed into every list.
  • Old one-off holidays never go away by themselves. After a few years most lists carry dozens of entries from 2019 that do nothing but make the list hard to read.
  • When something happens in the middle of the day, the person who can close the department in the 3CX console is not always around.

Hours & holidays puts all of that on one page and writes straight to 3CX. There is no publish step.

How 3CX stores holidays

This is the part that surprises people, and the page is built around it.

  • 3CX keeps one holiday list per department, plus one list for the whole phone system.
  • The lists are independent copies. A holiday on the whole-phone-system list is not automatically on a department’s list. Each department routes on its own list.
  • A holiday has a name, a start and end date, optional start and end times, an optional prompt (the audio callers hear), and is either every year (same month and day, no year) or one-off (a specific date).
  • A one-off holiday whose end date has passed is stale: it does nothing, but it stays in the list until someone deletes it.

The page reads all the lists and folds identical entries into one row. Juleaften, every year, 24 Dec, on every list is one row, not nine. When a department is missing it, the row says On 8 of 9 lists and one click adds it where it is missing.

A tour of the page

The badge in the top right says which mode the integration runs in: Live: changes are written to 3CX right away, or Read-only: changes are disabled on this integration. Hover it for the integration and 3CX version.

Right now shows one tile per department: its state at this moment (Open, Closed, Break, Holiday, Custom), today’s holiday if there is one, the next holiday, how many holidays and how many stale entries its list has, and the buttons Close now and Keep open. The tiles refresh every minute. See Right now: office status and Close now.

Holidays is the table. Above it: a filter to look at one list at a time, and the buttons Remove stale, Import .ics, Add a year and Add holiday. See The holiday list.

Requirements

  • 3CX V20 or newer. On an older 3CX the page says Not available on this phone system and why.
  • JEDWare integration 26.9.1 or newer on the 3CX server. An older integration shows Update your integration with a link to Admin settings.

Where changes are recorded

Every change is written to 3CX immediately and shows up in the 3CX Admin Console under the department. JEDWare also records each change with the user’s name in the activity log (Admin settings › Log): Created holiday Stock-taking, Removed 9 stale holidays (81 copies), Forced Salg DK closed until 2026-09-07T18:00:00, and so on.

Next: The holiday list.
