How to block a number
A caller who rings the same agent every five minutes, a robocall, an angry customer who will not stop: Block Number in the left menu
Block Number is the fastest way to deal with a nuisance caller in 3CX. A caller who rings the same agent every five minutes, a robocall, an angry customer who will not stop: from the Block Number page in the left menu you block the number for one extension or for the whole phone system, choose how long the block should last, and the block lifts itself when the time is up. Nobody needs the 3CX Management Console, and nobody has to remember to remove the block afterwards.
The Active blocks list is read live from the phone system, so it also shows blocks made in 3CX itself, marked Permanent. Every JEDWare block shows a countdown to its expiry, and Unblock lifts a block before its time. The history keeps a record of who blocked what and when, which is useful when a customer asks why their call did not get through.
3CX has its own blocklist, but it needs Management Console access and a block there stays until someone removes it. The practical split is to use JEDWare for the temporary blocks that a supervisor or receptionist handles during the day, and 3CX for the permanent ones. Administrators can give every JEDWare block the same expiry with the Block settings under Admin settings, Phone system, Call blocking, which keeps the list tidy when many users block numbers.
The guide below shows how to block a number step by step, what the caller experiences, how the countdown and Unblock work, and how a block made in JEDWare relates to the 3CX blocklist.
